Whitsunday Expeditions is seeking for experienced Scuba Diving Instructor ( Open Water)

Position Title: SSI/PADI Scuba Diving Instructor

Location: Airlie Beach, 4802 QLD

Position available full-time, 38 h per week

Position Overview:

The Scuba Diving Instructor aboard SV Summer Jo is responsible for the safe and professional delivery of scuba diving instruction, guided dive experiences, and daily vessel operations. The role involves teaching SSI and PADI certification courses, leading certified divers, conducting safety briefings, and assisting with deck and tender duties. The instructor also contributes to the coordination of daily dive and snorkel schedules. This position requires adherence to the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and professionalism in line with PADI and SSI standards. This position h/ per weekalso includes general deckhand responsibilities and assisting in office and vessel maintenance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Dive Instruction and Training

Conduct SSI and PADI scuba diving courses from entry level through advanced certifications in accordance with agency standards.

Deliver classroom, confined water, and open water instruction, ensuring all safety and training requirements are met.

Assess and certify students upon completion of course requirements and maintain accurate training records.

Guided Diving and Guest Supervision:

Lead certified divers on guided dives, providing site briefings and ensuring adherence to safe diving practices.

Monitor diver performance and environmental conditions throughout each dive.

Provide underwater supervision and emergency response when necessary.

Vessel and Deck Operations:

Assist in vessel operations, including anchoring, mooring, passenger management, and equipment setup.

Perform deckhand duties such as cleaning, maintenance, and general housekeeping to maintain a safe and organised environment.

Drive and operate tenders to transport guests, crew, and equipment between the main vessel and dive sites.

Equipment Maintenance and Air Fills

Fill and maintain scuba cylinders, ensuring compliance with safety and servicing protocols.

Inspect, clean, and maintain diving equipment and compressors as required.

Coordination and Communication

?Conduct comprehensive dive and vessel briefings, including safety protocols and activity overviews.

?Assist in planning and coordinating the daily schedule of dives and other marine activities.

? Communicate effectively with guests and crew to ensure smooth operations and a high-quality guest experience.

Safety and Compliance

?Uphold all workplace health and safety standards and company risk management procedures.

?Maintain current first aid, CPR, and oxygen provider certifications.

? Ensure compliance with maritime and environmental protection laws and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

The position requires AQF Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and SSI Diving Instructor Certificate plus Minimum 3 years of experience experience

?Current SSI and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification

?Current First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Oxygen Provider qualification

?Coxswains III

?Elements of Shipboard Safety

?QLD Responsible Service of Alcohol

?Blue Card (working with Children)

?Current Dive Medical (fit to dive).

?Proven experience delivering dive instruction and guiding certified divers in a commercial marine tourism or liveaboard environment.

?Strong interpersonal, communication, and guest service skills.

? Ability to work as part of a small, professional crew in varied marine conditions.

Position Summary:

This position is essential to the safe and efficient operations of Whitsunday Expeditions and its vessels dive and marine tourism activities. The Scuba Diving Instructor ensures guests receive professional training and guided dive experiences while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and customer satisfaction.
