About the Role (Multiple positions available)
We are seeking compassionate and experienced Disability Support Workers / Aged or Disabled Carers to provide high-quality personal care and support to NDIS participants in their own homes and in community settings across Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.
This is a hands-on role providing direct care, assistance with daily living activities, emotional support, and companionship to help our participants live independently and achieve their NDIS goals.
You will work closely with participants, their families, support coordinators, and allied health professionals to deliver person-centred care in accordance with individual NDIS plans and support needs.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care and Daily Living Support
• Provide personal care assistance including bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene support
• Assist participants with mobility, transfers, repositioning, and the use of mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers, hoists)
• Assist with eating and drinking, including meal preparation and feeding support where required
• Administer medications in accordance with individual care plans and medication management protocols
• Monitor participants' physical health and wellbeing, reporting any changes or concerns to supervisors and health professionals
Domestic Assistance
• Perform household duties including cleaning, laundry, ironing, and general tidying
• Prepare nutritious meals in accordance with participants' dietary requirements and preferences
• Assist with grocery shopping and household errands
• Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable living environment for participants
Emotional Support and Companionship
• Provide emotional support, care and companionship to participants
• Build positive, trusting relationships with participants and their families
• Encourage participants' independence, dignity and self-determination
• Support participants' mental health and emotional wellbeing through active listening and engagement
Community Access and Social Participation
• Accompany participants to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and community activities
• Support participants to access and participate in social, recreational, educational and vocational activities
• Assist participants with shopping, banking, and other community-based tasks
• Provide transportation support, including driving participants to appointments and outings
Skills Development
• Assist participants to develop and maintain daily living skills including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and self-care
• Support participants to build communication, social and interpersonal skills
• Encourage independence and capacity building in accordance with NDIS goals
• Implement skill development programs as outlined in participants' NDIS plans
Documentation and Compliance
• Maintain accurate progress notes, incident reports, and participant records in accordance with NDIS requirements
• Follow individual care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk management strategies
• Adhere to NDIS Practice Standards, Quality and Safeguarding Framework, and organisational policies
• Report any incidents, concerns, or changes in participant needs to supervisors promptly
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities
Workplace Health and Safety
• Follow safe manual handling techniques and use equipment correctly (hoists, lifters, mobility aids)
• Maintain infection control practices and hygiene standards
• Identify and report workplace hazards and risks
• Ensure participant and personal safety at all times
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
• Minimum Certificate II or III
• OR minimum one (1) year of demonstrated relevant experience in disability support, aged care, or personal care may substitute for formal qualifications
Experience:
• Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience providing personal care and support to people with disabilities or aged persons
• Demonstrated experience with personal care tasks including showering, toileting, dressing, grooming, and feeding assistance
• Experience with medication administration and following care plans

• Ability to build rapport and positive relationships with participants and families
• Understanding of person-centred care and the NDIS framework
• Ability to follow care plans, behaviour support plans, and support strategies
• Physical fitness to perform manual handling tasks including lifting, transferring, and assisting with mobility
• Reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility to work across various shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and sleepovers as required
Compliance Requirements:
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)
• Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Check
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent)
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle
• Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
• Legal right to work in Australia
Desirable
• Certificate IV in Disability or Individual Support
• Experience working with participants with complex needs including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, acquired brain injury, or psychosocial disability
• Experience with behaviour support and implementing Behaviour Support Plans
• Experience with manual handling equipment including hoists and lifters
• Knowledge of medication administration protocols
• Experience with participants who have high physical support needs
• Understanding of trauma-informed care practices
• Multilingual skills (languages spoken in the local community)
