Position: Disability Support Worker

Type: Full Time (38 hours per week)

Salary: $76,515 - $80,000 + Super

Location: Thornlands, QLD (South East QLD)

LOJ Supports is seeking an experienced and qualified Disability Support Worker to join the team. The position plays a critical role in providing direct support to individuals with disabilities and implementing behaviour support plans to promote independence, engagement, and the highest possible quality of life. This position requires a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled individual who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those they support, working closely with clients, families, and a multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored, effective support.

The position involves:

?      Implement and monitor individualised behaviour support plans. Use evidence-based strategies to assist clients in managing challenging behaviours and developing positive behaviours.

?      Provide direct, hands-on support to individuals with disabilities in various settings, including their homes, community locations, and during recreational activities, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and enhancement of life skills.

?      Assist clients with their daily living activities (housekeeping, food preparation, running errands), personal care, and the development of social skills and community engagement.

?      Work closely with families, caregivers, and professionals (e.g., therapists, psychologists) to ensure consistency in the implementation of behaviour support strategies. Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

?      Accurately document client progress and incidents, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with relevant legislation and organisational policies. Report on the effectiveness of behaviour support strategies and contribute to plan reviews.

?      Utilise de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies as necessary, prioritising the safety of all individuals involved.

?      Engage in ongoing professional development and training related to disability support, behaviour management, and therapeutic interventions.

The ideal candidate must:

?      Certificate III or IV in Disability Support, Community Services, or a related field or at least one years experience in a similar position.

?      Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those with challenging behaviours.

?      Knowledge of positive behaviour support principles and strategies.

?      Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, families, and team members.

?      Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to support.

?      Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

?      Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.

?      Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.

?      Exposure to challenging behaviours and situations that require the use of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.

Additional requirements:

?      A current NDIS Worker Screening Check.

?      A current National Police Check.

?      A current Working with Children Check.

?      First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain one.

?      CPR Certificate or willing to obtain one.

?      COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate or Immunization evidence.

?      Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

?      Right to Work in Australia.
