About the role

The Diesel Motor Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of Ali Farms' extensive fleet of agricultural machinery, heavy vehicles, and light vehicles. This hands-on role is critical to minimising equipment downtime, ensuring the safety of all operators, and maximising the efficiency of our farming operations. The successful candidate will be a proactive, skilled, and safety-conscious professional with a strong background in agricultural mechanics.
Duties and Responsibilities
Mechanical Diagnostics and Repair
• Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and braking systems to identify faults and determine repair requirements.
• Conduct comprehensive repairs and overhauls on a wide range of equipment, including tractors, combine harvesters, sprayers, seeders, trucks, utility vehicles, and irrigation pumps.
• Carry out welding, fabrication, and machining tasks as required to repair or modify equipment.
• Service and repair air conditioning systems.
• Perform tyre fitting, repairs, and replacements for all fleet vehicles and machinery.
Preventative Maintenance
• Develop, implement, and adhere to a preventative maintenance schedule for all farm machinery and vehicles to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Conduct routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication, in line with manufacturer specifications and operational demands.
• Perform pre-season inspections and preparations for key machinery to ensure readiness for planting, spraying, and harvesting periods.
• Maintain detailed and accurate service logs, job cards, and maintenance records for all work performed.
Workshop and Inventory Management
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment at all times.
• Manage the inventory of spare parts, lubricants, and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Source and order parts from suppliers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
• Ensure all tools and workshop equipment are properly maintained, secured, and in safe working order.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
• Comply with all company WHS policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
• Conduct risk assessments before commencing tasks and implement appropriate safety controls.
• Ensure all machinery and vehicles are safe for operation following repairs or servicing.
• Actively participate in safety meetings and contribute to a positive safety culture.
• Use and maintain all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Essential Skills
• Demonstrated experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably within an agricultural or heavy earthmoving environment.
• Proven diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and 12/24V electrical systems.
• A current and valid Australian manual driver's licence.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Physically fit
Qualifications needed:
• Trade qualification in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
• Minimum one year of work experience on relevant position

Salary: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $75,000-$95,000 plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
