Position Description, Main Tasks and Requirements
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team. The successful applicant will be responsible for:
• Servicing, repairing, and maintaining the company’s fleet of heavy diesel trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.
• Conducting preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to minimise breakdowns and downtime.
• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in diesel engines, transmissions, suspension, steering, braking, and hydraulic systems.
• Overhauling, rebuilding, and replacing engines, gearboxes, fuel systems, and other major components as required.
• Performing roadworthy and safety inspections, ensuring all work complies with Australian safety and regulatory standards.
• Using specialised tools and diagnostic equipment to test, adjust, and calibrate engines and mechanical components.
• Keeping accurate records of maintenance, servicing, and repairs in line with company and compliance requirements.
• Ensuring the workshop is kept in a safe and organised manner, following company safety systems, policies, and procedures.
• Assisting in managing the workshop budget in conjunction with the company Finance Manager, including monitoring parts usage and workshop efficiency.
• Liaising with drivers and operations staff regarding vehicle issues and prioritising repairs to keep the fleet operational.
• Training and mentoring apprentices and junior staff as required.
Key Skills and Competencies
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, braking, steering, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and engineering specifications.
• Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and specialised diagnostic equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding, and problem-solving abilities.
• Competence in dismantling, reassembling, and testing mechanical components and assemblies.
• Knowledge of electronic engine management and modern diesel fuel injection systems.
• Familiarity with workplace health and safety practices and compliance requirements.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to liaise effectively with workshop colleagues, drivers, and management.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining high-quality standards.

Qualifications and Experience
• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent).
• At least 10 years of relevant work experience in a similar environment working with heavy diesel vehicles and fleet operations.
• Demonstrated skills in diagnostic testing, servicing, and repairs on heavy diesel vehicles.
• Ability to manage priorities, work under pressure, and deliver quality results to deadlines.
• Must be eligible to work in Australia.
