As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll play a vital role in keeping heavy-duty vehicles and equipment running at peak performance. You'll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy diesel engines and related systems across a wide range of machinery, including trucks and construction machinery.
This hands-on role involves mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs, routine inspections, and preventative maintenance. You'll be working in a dynamic environment where your expertise ensures safety, reliability, and efficiency across our fleet.
SALARY: $77,000.00 - $80,000.00 plus superannuation
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
* Conduct routine inspections and maintenance procedures, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns.
* Perform engine tune-ups, rebuilds, and overhauls as needed to restore performance and extend the lifespan of equipment.
* Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems efficiently and accurately.
* Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working with heavy machinery and hazardous materials, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage for documentation and reporting purposes.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and customers to provide updates on repair progress, estimate completion times, and address any concerns or questions.
* Stay informed about advancements in diesel engine technology, industry trends, and best practices through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
* Collaborate with other members of the maintenance team to prioritize workload, share knowledge, and support departmental goals and objectives.
* Commitment to safety practices and protocols, with a focus on maintaining a clean and organized work environment and preventing accidents or injuries.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or technical training in diesel mechanics preferred.
* Proven experience as a heavy diesel mechanic, with a strong understanding of diesel engine operation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
* Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and software applications for troubleshooting and repairs.
* Solid knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems commonly found in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyse complex issues and implement effective solutions.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and clients.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
* Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and manoeuvring heavy objects, as well as working in various weather conditions and environments.
* Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
