Torres Strait Tours is seeking a reliable and safety focused fulltime Deckhand to join our team. This position is based in the Torres Strait Region and is essential to the safe and efficient operation of our vessels and associated passenger transport services. Working under the direction of the Vessel Master, you will assist with vessel operations, passenger movements, cargo handling, and general deck duties while maintaining high standards of safety, customer service, and professionalism.

We are offering a fulltime annual salary of $76,515 plus 12% superannuation to the successful applicant.

The successful applicant must be able to meet the criteria set out below:

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Vessel Master or relevant supervisor, duties include:

· Assisting with berthing, unberthing, mooring and securing vessels

· Handling and securing lines, ropes and moorings

· Assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking, including those with mobility challenges or disabilities

· Loading, unloading and stowing baggage, freight and supplies

· Maintaining a lookout while underway, identifying hazards and navigational markers

· Supporting safe navigation and vessel operations as directed by the Master

· Communicating effectively with crew, passengers and operational staff

· Maintaining passenger manifests, trip records and operational logs

· Collecting fares, tickets or recording trips using booking systems

· Ensuring on-time departures and arrivals

· Cleaning and maintaining vessels, vehicles and work areas

· Reporting incidents, hazards, defects or maintenance issues

· Complying with Work Health and Safety, maritime legislation and company policies

· Participating in required training, drills and Safety Management System (SMS) activities

Skills & Work experience:

· A minimum of two (2) years’ full-time work experience as a Deckhand or in a closely related marine or passenger transport occupation

· Demonstrated experience performing deck operations, passenger assistance and vessel support duties

· Ability to work in accordance with maritime safety regulations and operational procedures

· Physically capable of undertaking manual handling and working in outdoor marine environments

· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
