Mensho is currently seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join its dynamic kitchen team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and executing a range of authentic Japanese dishes, ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation. This is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional with expertise in Japanese cuisine, particularly ramen, to showcase their skills in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
Reporting to the Chef, the Cook will play a key role in kitchen operations, including food preparation, hygiene compliance, stock management, and menu innovation. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for delivering exceptional food while maintaining high safety and operational standards.
Qualifications and experience
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
• At least one year of full-time experience as a Cook, preferably in Japanese cuisine
• Expertise in Japanese cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavor profiles
• Experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
In this role your main responsibilities include:
• Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes, including ramen and other traditional specialties
• Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portioning of all menu items
• Oversee food preparation processes and ensure quality control at every stage
• Maintain hygiene and safety standards in compliance with regulations
• Monitor stock levels, manage inventory, and order ingredients as needed
• Assist in developing new menu items, incorporating seasonal ingredients and customer preferences
• Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to uphold kitchen standards
• Maintain and operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively
• Assist in estimating food and labor costs to optimize efficiency
• Coordinate with the restaurant management team on kitchen operations and improvements
