  • We are currently seeking a Civil & Structural SME to ensure the integrity, safety, and reliability of civil and structural assets across our NPI and village portfolios. This role is responsible for applying effective asset management practices that align with business, regulatory, and client requirements.
  • The Civil & Structural SME supports the delivery of asset service levels and lifecycle management by applying engineering standards, risk-based methodologies, and deep technical expertise to achieve both operational and strategic objectives. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders, the SME ensures that civil and structural solutions are sustainable, cost-effective, and fully compliant with statutory obligations and industry best practice.
  • Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, this is a full-time, permanent position based at our Balcatta Head Office, with ad-hoc travel to site as required.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • The Civil & Structural SME provides specialised technical expertise and engineering oversight to ensure the integrity, safety, and performance of civil and structural assets. The role supports the delivery of asset management and maintenance activities in alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and strategic asset management strategies.
  • The Civil & Structural SME supports asset management and maintenance activities, ensuring all assets comply with relevant regulations, maintains governance documentation, standards, and corporate requirements and provides guidance to maintenance teams on civil and structural matters.

Civil & Structural SME

  • Develops and reviews civil and structural management methodology and service delivery models from a whole-of-life asset perspective for NPI and village portfolio civil and structural assets.
  • Manages structural & civil asset assessment methodology and process, inspections, and investigations to ensure asset integrity and compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
  • Develops and reviews scope of work tender specifications and supports the supply chain with tender processes and evaluation for projects, owns contract and contractor relationships on behalf of the company.
  • Analyse asset performance and related reports, incorporate findings and observations into capital and operational works programs.
  • Provides technical input into project planning, execution, and close-out phases to ensure civil/structural requirements are met.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
  • Supports the development and implementation of asset strategies that preserve structural integrity and extend asset life.
  • Reviews and approves engineering calculations, drawings, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Identifies and mitigates structural risks through proactive engineering analysis and design.
  • Investigates structural failures or defects and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensures engineering activities comply with statutory obligations, codes of practice, and client specifications.
  • Supports procurement processes by defining technical requirements and evaluating supplier capabilities.
  • Contributes to the development of standards, procedures, and guidelines for civil/structural engineering practices.
  • Participates in audits and reviews to assess asset condition and engineering performance.
  • Promotes continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices and asset management.
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and coordinated project delivery.
  • Maintains accurate records of engineering activities, inspections, and compliance documentation.
  • Supports sustainability initiatives by incorporating environmentally responsible design principles.
  • Build networks to share knowledge and adopt best practices across the engineering function.
  • Scopes jobs on site to define engineering requirements, assess site conditions, and support effective planning and execution of works

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Structural engineering
  • Any Civil & Structural Inspection certification will be an advantage
  • Minimum of 3+ years post-graduate experience
  • Sound understanding of work management practices, master data management, and continuous improvement actions (Plan, Do, Check, Act)
  • Ability to professionally liaise with Sodexo management stakeholders, support centre and site teams.
  • Exceptional verbal & written communication skills, ability to clearly and effectively articulate desired outcomes that maximise business value
  • Demonstrated experience in inspecting and assessing civil and structural assets, including roads, culverts, domes, workshops, and similar infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil/structural engineering, with a strong background in field inspections, reporting, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Ability to travel to client sites to conduct inspections, support maintenance teams, and provide engineering advice as required.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards and local government regulations related to civil and structural assets.
