About the Position:
The Chef role at Royal Turban Indian Restaurant is essential to delivering the authentic Indian flavours and high standards that define our menu and reputation. This position involves planning, organising, and executing the preparation and cooking of traditional Indian dishes in a busy kitchen environment, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency during service. As a key member of the culinary team, the Chef plays a vital role in upholding the restaurant's commitment to excellence, contributing to customer satisfaction, and supporting the overall success of the business through creative yet faithful adherence to Indian culinary traditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food, specialising in authentic Indian cuisine.
Design and develop menus in consultation with management, incorporating traditional Indian dishes and seasonal specials.
Estimate food and labour costs to maintain efficiency and profitability.
Monitor and maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control.
Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring a collaborative and productive team environment.
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards.
Order and inspect food supplies, managing inventory to minimise waste.
Demonstrate techniques and provide guidance on Indian cooking methods, including spice blending and tandoor operations.
Requirements:
Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
Required qualifications: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, and Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.
Required experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 1 year in an Indian restaurant.
Required technical and interpersonal skills: Expertise in authentic Indian cooking techniques (such as tandoori, curry preparation, and spice balancing); strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices; ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen; excellent teamwork and communication skills; creativity in menu development while maintaining traditional flavours; and leadership abilities to supervise kitchen staff.
