About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Category Officer to lead the development and execution of sourcing strategies across centrally managed spend categories. This role plays a critical part in delivering measurable cost savings and driving procurement excellence.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure strong commercial outcomes, high service levels, and full contractual compliance across national and international supply markets.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement short- and long-term category strategies across key spend areas
• Drive performance, culture, and alignment with company strategy and governance standards
• Apply best-practice procurement and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver sustainable cost reductions and competitive advantage
• Lead end-to-end sourcing activities including tendering, supplier prequalification, bid evaluation, negotiations, and contract finalisation
• Manage supplier performance against agreed KPIs and contractual benchmarks
• Identify savings opportunities, supply risks, and strategic procurement improvements
• Resolve supplier disputes proactively and efficiently
• Partner with operational teams across the business to implement procurement strategies for complex spend categories
• Conduct post-project reviews and implement lessons learned
• Develop procurement tools, guidelines, and standardised processes
• Support and implement technology-enabled procurement solutions
• Conduct supplier audits and market surveys to maintain an optimal supplier base
• Forecast product demand to knowing supply sustainability
About You
You are a commercially astute procurement professional with strong stakeholder management skills and a strategic mindset. You thrive in complex environments, can influence at all levels, and are comfortable managing high-value supplier relationships.
Qualifications & Experience
• Tertiary qualifications in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Materials Management, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in procurement within the mining or resources sector
• Strong knowledge of tendering, contracting, and supplier management processes
• Extensive experience with HME parts and service suppliers (OEM and aftermarket)
• Experience with system-enabled Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes
• Project management experience
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to manage complex and challenging supplier relationships
