About the Role

We are seeking 10 motivated and reliable Cane Farm Workers to join seasonal operations in the Mackay region. These positions are offered on a 6-month casual basis and will involve assisting with cane harvesting, processing support, and general farm maintenance.

This role is suited to individuals who are physically fit, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Key Duties Include (but are not limited to):

Assisting with harvesting and processing of sugar cane

Supporting operation of farm and processing equipment

Cleaning and maintaining work areas

General farm maintenance tasks

Following all WHS and safety procedures

Working as part of a team to meet production targets

Skills & Requirements

Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Ability to perform repetitive manual labour

Physically fit and capable of lifting and standing for extended periods

Ability to work in hot and humid outdoor conditions

Previous agricultural experience advantageous but not essential

Ability to work a flexible roster including weekends

3.3.6 – HOURS OF WORK, PAY & CONDITIONS
Hours of Work

Employment Type: Casual (6 months)

Ordinary Hours: Up to 38 hours per week

Roster: Monday to Sunday, subject to operational requirements

Ordinary hours will be rostered across a 7-day period depending on seasonal and operational demands.

Example Weekly Structure (38 Hours)

Ordinary hours may be structured as:

Option 1 – 5 Days

7.6 hours per day × 5 days = 38 hours

Option 2 – 6 Days

Approximately 6–7 hours per day across 6 days

Total ordinary hours capped at 38 per week

Start and finish times may vary depending on seasonal conditions and will be advised in advance.

Overtime

Overtime may be required during peak harvest periods. Any overtime worked will be paid in accordance with the Sugar Industry Award 2020 (MA000087).

Pay & Conditions

Employees will be paid in accordance with the Sugar Industry Award 2020 (MA000087) and the applicable classification.

Entitlements include:

Base hourly rate plus 25% casual loading

Overtime and penalty rates where applicable

Superannuation contributions

Weekly payslips in line with Fair Work requirements

No unlawful deductions

Work Environment

This role involves:

Outdoor work in varying weather conditions

Exposure to dust and agricultural machinery

Repetitive physical activity and manual handling

Compliance with strict WHS and safety requirements

Full induction and safety training will be provided prior to commencement.
