Job Title: Boat Repairer
Boat Repairer is responsible for maintaining, repairing and ensuring the seaworthiness of vessels. This includes carrying out inspections, identifying faults, and performing necessary repairs to hulls, engines and other vessel components. The role requires hands-on work both in the workshop and on-site at the marina, attending to vessels as required. Assisting other team members in the day-to-day operation of the business is also expected.
Key Responsibilities:
• Repairs fiberglass boats according to blueprints and customer specifications, using hand tools and power tools: Confers with supervisory personnel and reads blueprints to determine repairs needed and plan sequence of operations.
• Examines boat to determine location and extent of defect.
• Perform thorough mechanical inspections and complete checklists with accuracy to ensure vessels are fit for charter and risk of breakdown is minimised.
• Complete all associated mechanical documentation and note any vessel inadequacies or unserviceable items.
• Cuts out defective area, using power saw, drills, and hand tools.
• Measures and records dimensions of defective area and lays out dimension lines and reference points on materials, using rules, straightedge, squares, and scribing instruments.
• Sets up and operates saws, joiners, planers, and shapers to fabricate repair parts where required.
• Positions and fits repair part in boat and secures part to boat, using caulking gun, adhesive, or hand tools.
• Cuts fiberglass material to specified size and patches defective surfaces.
• Smooths repaired surfaces, using power sander.
• Installs fittings and equipment according to customer specifications, using hand tools and portable power tools.
• Hand brushes or sprays paint or other finishing solution on repaired areas and waxes and buffs area to specified finish.
• Inspects masts, decking, fittings, engines, generators and safety equipment for defects.
• Might brief charter clients on vessel operations, area information, and safety requirements in accordance with provided guidelines and Conduct post-charter technical debriefs with clients, obtain feedback, and ensure accurate completion of debrief forms.
Qualifications:
A trade qualification related to boat repairing plus 12 months of experience is required. Alternatively, at least 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
