About The Role
On behalf of our client, a progressive and data-driven Angus seed stock operation in the Great Southern region, we are seeking a dedicated and skilled Beef Cattle Farm Worker. This is not just a farmhand role; it is an opportunity to contribute to a strategic breeding program focused on excellence.
Our client has meticulously built a renowned breeding herd over the past decade, with a core philosophy of combining superior genetics with functional, structurally sound cattle. They are committed to advancing their herd through rigorous data-driven selection and a steadfast focus on traits that deliver real profitability and reliability for their commercial bull customers.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about modern, sustainable beef production and possesses a keen eye for animal detail. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in the daily care and strategic management of this high-value stud herd, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, pasture health, and operational efficiency are maintained.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Livestock Care & Health Management
• Conduct daily inspections of cattle to monitor health, behaviour, and well-being, promptly reporting any signs of illness, injury, or distress.
• Feed and water management: Ensure cattle receive balanced nutrition by distributing feed, maintaining feeding schedules, and keeping water troughs clean and functional.
• Assist with veterinary procedures, including vaccinations, drenching, tagging, and administering medications under supervision.
• Support calving operations, assisting with birthing when necessary and ensuring newborn calves receive proper care.
• Assist in breeding programs, including heat detection, artificial insemination (if applicable), and record-keeping.
Grazing & Pasture Management
• Rotational grazing: Move cattle between paddocks to optimize pasture usage, prevent overgrazing, and promote forage regrowth.
• Monitor pasture conditions, identifying weed infestations, soil erosion, or fencing issues that may affect livestock movement.
• Assist in silage/hay production (if applicable), including cutting, baling, and storage for winter feed.
Farm Maintenance & Equipment Operation
• Perform routine repairs on fences, gates, cattle yards, and handling facilities to ensure structural integrity and livestock safety.
• Maintain and clean feeding systems, water pumps, and irrigation equipment to prevent blockages or malfunctions.
• Operate farm machinery (tractors, ATVs, feed mixers, etc.) for feeding, spraying, or pasture maintenance (training provided if needed).
• Assist with weed and pest control to maintain a safe and productive grazing environment.
Cattle Handling & Movement
• Safely mustering, drafting, and sorting cattle using low-stress handling techniques.
• Assist with loading/unloading livestock for transport, sales, or processing, ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards.
• Participate in branding, tagging, and weighing operations as part of herd management.
Record-Keeping & Compliance
• Maintain accurate livestock records, including health treatments, breeding, and weight data.
• Follow biosecurity protocols to prevent disease spread between livestock or properties.
• Adhere to workplace health and safety regulations, including safe chemical handling and machinery use.
Requirements & Qualifications:
• Minimum 1 year of experience in beef cattle farming, livestock handling, or a related agricultural role.
• Strong animal husbandry skills with an understanding of cattle behaviour, nutrition, and health needs.
• Farm machinery experience (tractors, quad bikes, feed wagons) is highly desirable.
• Basic mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance of farm infrastructure.
• Valid driver’s license (truck or tractor license is a plus).
• Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required by seasonal demands.
• Team player with strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
• Certification in Livestock Production, Agriculture, or Animal Science if preferable but not required.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit a resume and brief cover letter outlining their experience and suitability for the role.
