About
We are a busy bakery known for high-quality breads, cakes, pies and pastries. We are seeking a skilled Baker to join our Gladstone team. In this role you will prepare and bake a wide variety of bakery products using industrial ovens and mixers. Key duties include measuring, mixing and kneading dough; shaping loaves, rolls, cakes and pastries; monitoring baking times and temperatures; and decorating finished goods. You will also help train junior staff and maintain strict hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
? Prepare Dough & Batter: Weigh and measure baking ingredients (flour, yeast, butter, eggs, etc.) and combine them to make dough or batter.
? Knead and Shape: Knead, roll, cut and shape dough into breads, buns, cakes, tarts and pastry items; allow dough to rest/rise as needed for proper texture.
? Baking: Operate ovens and other bakery equipment; monitor oven temperatures and adjust baking times to ensure products are evenly and properly baked.
? Decorate & Finish: Apply icings, glazes and toppings to breads, pastries and cakes to achieve an appealing finished appearance.
? Clean and Maintain: Keep the bakery work area, equipment and utensils clean and sanitized in compliance with health/safety procedures. Regularly clean trays, pans, mixers and ovens.
? Train & Supervise: Instruct and mentor new or junior bakery staff on recipes, equipment use and best practice. Ensure the team works efficiently and productively.
? Inventory & Ordering: Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies; assist with ordering to ensure uninterrupted production.
Skills and experience
? Commercial bakery experience (2+ years) and/or Certification in Baking (or equivalent) preferred
? Proven bread making/baking and pastry capability: breads, cakes, slices, tart making
? Ability to train and coach new Baker/staff with clear communication and patience
? Solid understanding of nutrition fundamentals for healthier product choices and ingredient transparency
? Strong spoken and written English; comfortable with production logs and SOPs
? A can-do attitude, reliability, and pride in consistent quality
? Attention to detail, cleanliness, and food safety practices (e.g., HACCP basics)
? Comfortable with early starts and peak production periods
