UQ Biological Resources Full-time, fixed-term position up to October 2028 Base salary will be in the range $67,587 - $74,394 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 3) Based across our St. Lucia and Herston Campus About This Opportunity  As an Associate Animal Technician, you will play a hands-on role in the daily operations of our animal facilities, including the provision of care, monitoring animal health and welfare, maintaining breeding programs, and supporting research activities. Working under the direction of the Senior Animal Facility Manager, you will also contribute to cleaning, waste management, equipment processing, and ensure compliance with strict regulatory and ethical standards. These positions offer an exciting opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing meaningfully to research that addresses global challenges in health, science, and innovation. Key responsibilities will include:  Conduct daily husbandry, welfare checks, and routine procedures for laboratory rodents (e.g., injections, sample collection, euthanasia). Manage breeding colonies, including data recording and monitoring. Maintain and clean animal facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe and compliant environment. Ensure compliance with animal welfare and biosafety regulations, including work on rostered weekends and public holidays. Demonstrated competence in routine rodent techniques, including injections, sample collection, and euthanasia. Understanding of industry and regulatory requirements (OH&S, OGTR, DAFF, AEC) and ability to comply with institutional policies. Experience in planning, prioritising workloads, working independently, and meeting deadlines. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively within a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with prior experience in an animal facility regarded positively. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, mandatory immunisations and medical clearance.
