The Client

Our client is a family-owned tea company founded in 1978 in the Tweed Valley of northern New South Wales, located in Clothiers Creek. It produces high-quality teas and grows and blends black, green, and specialty teas on its plantation, which benefits from the region’s subtropical climate and pure rainwater. The company is recognised as one of Australia’s most respected premium tea brands, supplying both the domestic and international markets.

The Role

They are seeking a full time Agricultural Consultant to join their team in Clothiers Creek in New South Wales. This is for a full-time position at an annual salary at $80,000 to $100,000 plus superannuation.

The Responsibilities

Analyse and manage farm operations, including soil and crop management, rehabilitation of problem areas, and sustainable land management strategies.

Provide technical advice on tea production, including cultivation, harvesting, fertilisation, and post-harvest handling, to improve yield and efficiency.

Develop and implement a weed eradication and integrated pest management strategy, and provide recommendations for soil and crop improvement to farmers.

Develop strategies for farm rehabilitation, sustainable land use, and disease management in tea cultivation and increase commercial production.

Provide consultancy on cultivation methods for tea, including fertilisation, harvesting, and pest/disease monitoring.

Research and recommend improvements to production methods, blending processes, and quality systems to achieve higher yields and efficiency.

Ensure compliance with agricultural, biosecurity, and environmental regulations affecting tea plantation operations.

Provide advice on sustainable planting, rehabilitation of problem areas, and long-term tea estate growth.

Develop plantation rehabilitation strategies and optimise harvesting methods for tea.

Develop integrated farm management strategies to mitigate pest, disease, weed, and soil degradation risks in tea production.

The Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Plantation Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related discipline.

Previous experience at least five years in providing agricultural consultancy or technical advice in crop production in tea and plantation settings.

At least 5 years’ experience in soil science, crop nutrition, and pest/disease management specific to tea cultivation.

At least 5 years’ experience advising on irrigation systems, mechanisation, and labour optimisation in plantation environments.

At least 5 years’ experience conducting field-based research, data analysis, and reporting for crop performance.

At least 5 years’ experience liaising with plantation owners, processors, and export partners.

Exposure to post-harvest handling and quality assurance systems within an agricultural production environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in evaluating soil, crop, and environmental factors.

Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and environmental compliance requirements.

Ability to advise on and oversee the use of agricultural machinery and tea processing equipment.

High-level communication skills to liaise with managers, staff, and external stakeholders.

Ability to prepare reports and recommendations to support management decision-making.
