- Job Description
- We’re seeking a passionate Aboriginal Programme Liaison Officer to join our diverse team on a 6-month contract to champion our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culturally Sensitive Recovery and Return to Work Programme. This role is pivotal in shaping culturally responsive and inclusive rehabilitation services and in building reciprocal, trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities and stakeholders nationwide.
- We have offices throughout Australia, so we are open to location and are flexible on either part-time or full-time hours.
- The Opportunity
In this critical role, you’ll be helping make a difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples through
- Cultural Advisory & Mentorship
- Providing expert cultural mentorship and guidance on rehabilitation cases involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, respecting diverse cultural protocols and practices
- Supporting our Rehabilitation Consultants and regional teams through culturally responsive initiatives during initial engagement, medical appointments, return-to-work planning, and stakeholder interactions, ensuring cultural safety and respect
- Advocating for the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients during critical life events (e.g. Sorry Business, community obligations)
- Recommending culturally appropriate community supports and Treaters
- Attending site visits, medical case conferences and stakeholder meetings where cultural advice is required
- Educating stakeholders on cultural considerations
- Under direction, assisting and supporting the delivery of our culturally responsive Australia Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recovery and Return to Work Programme
- Collaborating with regional team leaders and consultants to ensure cultural support is embedded into RTW planning
- Assisting in co-ordinating monthly cultural champion meetings and required activities.
- Community Engagement
- Building and nurturing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Representing WorkFocus at forums and events
- Identifying and onboarding culturally safe Treaters and support services for wellbeing
- Identifying and connecting clients with appropriate community supports
- Qualifications
- MedHealth considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position (under s 14 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)). We believe that an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person brings essential insights and understanding to this role, enhancing our ability to connect with and serve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients effectively.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Deep cultural knowledge and trusted networks within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Experience mentoring professionals and delivering community-based programmes
- Strong communication, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Understanding of rehabilitation, injury management, or human services would be beneficial (allied health qualification would be desirable)
- Confidence presenting in team and community settings
